George Best City Airport - Airedale Chiller

Posted: 4/7/2018

As the summer of 2014 approached the chilled water plant serving the Air Handling Units at George Best Belfast City Airport developed major service problems. A rapid replacement of 400 kW of cooling was required to deal with the peak summer load.

An emergency temporary chiller was hired in and a fast track build of the Airedale Model DCC036DR was ordered. The proximity of other air conditioning plant and Air Handlers made the positioning of the temporary chiller a rather delicate operation and suggested that when the larger capacity replacement chiller was delivered some precision crane work would be required.

Overnight in late June, BL and Graham FM removed the temporary chiller and craned in the new chiller with on board run standby pumps and controls. This packaged solution allowed the system to be up and running within eighteen hours. The system was then ready for the peak July holiday period.
