Mash Direct - Blast Chill

Posted: 4/7/2018

As the production at Mash Direct has grown exponentially over the past few years BL have had to provide an ever increasing Blast Chill Facility to cope with the increased volume and variety of freshly cooked produce. Retaining the simplicity of the cook and chill process has required increasingly innovative product handling and flexible control options to ensure that target throughput figures are met.

The first phase of a new Blast Chill installation needed particular attention to current and future needs at the latest extension of the factory. Initially a batch trolley system was to be installed which could then be easily upgraded to a Spiral Chill installation which would allow continuous production of standard, high volume small portion product.

The Blast Chill Enclosures were built to accommodate the required cooling capacity of the present and future loads and were fitted out internally for two separate 5 trolley Blast Chills. A temporary internal wall and a removable external wall would allow the module to become one half of a future two stage Spiral Chill.

The equipment and rooms were installed ahead of schedule and the installation is now running as a batch blast chill with the upgrade to spiral under development.
